A shocking video showing a violent altercation between two women aboard a Mumbai Ladies Special local train has gone viral on social media, sparking public concern over safety and growing commuter tension during peak hours on the city’s crowded suburban railway network.

"The incident occurred on June 19 aboard the 6:13 pm Churchgate–Virar Ladies Special local train. According to officials, the fight broke out around 7:30 pm as the train neared Bhayandar station. The viral clip, lasting two minutes and four seconds, captures a chaotic scene in a packed compartment where two women are seen pulling each other’s hair, exchanging punches, and one of them bleeding from the face. Despite the efforts of other passengers to intervene, the brawl continued unabated" said an official.

"The Bhayandar station master alerted on-duty head constable Nagargoje of the Vasai Road Government Railway Police (GRP) about the fight. Personnel from the GRP, Railway Protection Force (RPF), and Maharashtra Security Force (MSF) quickly responded and attended the train at Bhayandar station. Both women were deboarded from the train" official stated.

"Both  women were identified the women as Kavita Ramchandran (31), a resident of Virar East, and Jyoti Ayodhya Prasad (21), a resident of Naigaon East. Kavita sustained a minor head injury and was given first aid by the station master at Bhayandar. Initially, both women declined to file a formal complaint or First Information Report (FIR). Their statements were recorded, and the incident was documented in the Bhayandar GRP Chowki diary before they were allowed to return home" further added official.

According to GRP sources, the fight reportedly erupted over space while trying to deboard the train. However, both women later refused to file complaints against each other.

Following the public outcry generated by the viral video, the RPF at Bhayandar post took cognizance of the matter and on Friday registered a case under Section 145(b) of the Indian Railways Act, 1989, which pertains to creating nuisance and exhibiting indecent behavior in railway premises. An investigation is currently underway.

Commenting on the incident, a senior railway official appealed to passengers to maintain calm and seek peaceful means to resolve disputes. “Overcrowding and daily stress cannot justify violence. We urge commuters to approach railway staff for help instead of engaging in physical confrontations,” the official stated.
