In a month-long intensive operation during July, Panvel City Police cracked 38 serious cases and arrested 57 accused, recovering stolen property worth over Rs 74 lakh.
Treasure Scam Busted, ₹39.70 Lakh Recovered
The cases involved theft, robbery, housebreaking, fraud, witchcraft, narcotics, and cybercrime. A fraudster named Tausif Mujawar duped a family in Panvel of Rs 39.70 lakh in cash and jewellery, claiming he could retrieve hidden treasure from their farmland.
Police traced and arrested him from Hupari in Kolhapur district, recovering all the stolen jewellery and cash.In another case, accused Ashok Jyotish Gharai (34) stole iPhones worth Rs 7.25 lakh and fled to his native place in Odisha. While hiding in a flood-affected area, he was tracked down by Panvel City Police, who, with the help of the Fire Brigade, travelled 8 km by boat to arrest him. Five iPhones were recovered.

"We also arrested a gang that looted passengers near Panvel Bus Depot under the guise of offering them lifts, seizing property worth Rs 2.27 lakh. Another gang of five involved in snatching bags from passengers near Panvel Railway Station was nabbed, with stolen goods worth Rs 11.67 lakh recovered," senior police inspector Nitin Thakeray from Panvel City police station said.
Additionally, a gang that broke into a mobile phone shop was arrested, and 45 mobile phones worth Rs 4.95 lakh were seized. Four related cases were also solved.The crackdown was carried out under the guidance of Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner Milind Bharambe, Joint CP Sanjay Yenpure, and DCP (Zone 3) Prashant Mohite. The operations were led by ACP Bhausaheb Dhole with the teams of Senior PI Thakeray and PI (Crime) Shakir Patel.During the month, three people were arrested for vehicle theft, leading to the solving of eight related cases.

Ten accused involved in robberies were nabbed, and six cases were solved. In housebreaking incidents, seven accused were arrested, and eight cases were cracked. Seventeen people involved in other theft cases were arrested, and seven such crimes were solved. In fraud cases, three accused were arrested, leading to the resolution of five cases. Nine accused were booked under the Information Technology Act, solving two cases. In narcotics-related offences under the NDPS Act, two accused were arrested, and heroin worth Rs 1.05 lakh was seized.
