Panvel: In a major safety alert ahead of the monsoon, the Panvel Municipal Corporation has declared 80 buildings within its limits as dangerous or highly dangerous for occupancy. Based on a structural survey conducted for the financial year 2025–26, these buildings have been categorized under the C-1 category, indicating a high risk of collapse.
The breakdown includes 18 buildings in Ward A, 15 in Ward B, 10 in Ward C, and 37 in Ward D. Residents of all 80 structures have been issued evacuation notices under Sections 265 and 268 of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporations Act, 1949, as well as directives from the State Government and the Bombay High Court.
Municipal Commissioner Mangesh Chitale has stressed the urgent need to vacate these premises to prevent loss of life during the upcoming monsoon season. If residents and property owners fail to act, the civic body has warned that it will proceed to cut off power and water supply, forcibly vacate the buildings, and carry out demolition with police support.
The responsibility for conducting structural audits and taking preventive measures lies with the property owners and tenants. The corporation has made it clear that it will not be held responsible for any casualties or damage resulting from the collapse of these buildings.
A full list of the 80 dangerous buildings is available on www.panvelcorporation.com. Citizens are also encouraged to report any hazardous structures nearby to their local ward office.
