Palghar: Two accused have been arrested by the Bandra police for raping a 17-year-old minor girl who was on her way to buy medicine around midnight. According to the police, the accused persons took her to Virar and raped and threatened her over a video which they had taken of her.
The incident took place on the night of March 2 at around 1.00 am. According to sources, the minor girl was going to the medical store to get medicines for her sick mother who was admitted at a hospital in Bandra, when two people abducted the minor girl, allegedly intoxicated her and took her to Virar, where they gang-raped her. Based on the statement of the victim, the police registered a case against the two accused and arrested them on Saturday.
According to the police, the victim stated the accused persons threatened the her by taking a video of the incident and told her that if she would tell anything about this incident to anyone, both her and her mother would be killed or her video would be uploaded on the internet.
"The arrested accused seemed like they are part of the labour community, they were arrested on the same day of the complaint registration and a detailed investigation is underway," said a police official.
On the basis of the statement of the minor girl, the police arrested the two accused under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 376(rape), 366(Kidnap), 328 (intoxication), 506 (criminal intimidation), and other sections under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
Minor gang-raped in Matunga
Earlier in December, a 13-year-old girl was gang-raped by her classmates in the Matunga area of Mumbai.
Following the incident, the police detained two minors accused in the case and sent them to the Dongri correctional home (juvenile home).
The police said that the victim and the accused minor boys study together in class 8.
The case was registered on November 30 under Section 376 (D) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the POCSO Act.
