Independent MP Navneet Rana and her MLA husband Ravi Rana on Wednesday appeared before a special court in connection with the Mumbai Police plea seeking cancellation of their bail in the Hanuman Chalisa protest case.
The couple’s advocate pointed out that since they could not appear before the court during the last hearing, they had come to mark their attendance.
The court, however, could not take up the hearing in the matter citing workload. Further, the court has kept the matter for hearing on June 27.
On April 23, the Khar police had registered an FIR against Ranas under various sections of the IPC for promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, sedition along with other things under the Bombay Police Act for allegedly trying to create a law-and-order situation.
The couple was granted bail by the special court on May 4.
One of their bail conditions was that they would not address the press (print or visual media) on any of the subjects related to the sedition case. However, the prosecution claimed that the couple flouted the bail condition and sought for cancellation of their bail.
