Navi Mumbai: Anticipating a spike in accidents during Gokulashtami’s Dahi Handi celebrations, NewEra Hospital, Navi Mumbai, has launched a 24×7 emergency helpline (+91 9172970111) and reserved 10 dedicated emergency beds for trauma victims.
About The Move
The move comes as past years have seen dozens of festival-related injuries in Navi Mumbai and Mumbai, including head trauma, fractures, and spinal injuries. Hospital officials said the initiative is aimed at ensuring timely treatment within the “golden hour” — the first 60 minutes after an injury — which is crucial for saving lives and reducing long-term complications.
Dr. Sunil Kutty's Statement
Dr. Sunil Kutty, leading neurosurgeon at NewEra Hospital, said, “Festivals bring joy, but they also carry certain risks when safety measures are overlooked. Every year, we treat multiple patients with severe head injuries, spine damage, and neurological trauma during Dahi Handi. With our emergency helpline and reserved beds, we aim to ensure no time is lost in getting the right treatment.”

The hospital’s trauma care unit, comprising emergency physicians, neurosurgeons, orthopedic specialists, and critical care staff, will remain on high alert during the celebrations. The public has been urged to immediately call the emergency helpline in case of accidents for rapid response and pre-hospital guidance.
Hospital authorities said the preparedness ensures that no patient will be turned away due to lack of space and reflects NewEra’s commitment to community health and safety.
