Navi Mumbai: Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has become the first municipal corporation in the country to provide Property Identity Cards to property owners, a facility aimed at enhancing transparency and simplifying property-related transactions.
About The Initiative
The initiative was launched on Independence Day at the NMMC headquarters after the flag hoisting ceremony. Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde inaugurated the scheme, under the coordination of Additional Commissioner and Tax Department head Dr. Rahul Gethe. Symbolically, five property owners received their cards during the event.
The Property Identity Card, similar to a PAN card, will benefit 3.5 lakh property owners in the city. It will provide consolidated information such as property number, address, area, and tax details. The card carries a QR code, enabling property owners to check outstanding dues, track advance payments, and pay property tax both online and at Citizen Facilitation Centers.
Officials said the card will also serve as an official property identification document, making sale, transfer, and verification of property easier. “This initiative will save property owners time, effort, and costs while interacting with the Property Tax Department,” an NMMC spokesperson stated.
Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar, City Engineer Shirish Ardwad, Assistant Commissioner of Property Tax Department Alka Mahapurkar, and other senior officials were present at the launch.
Commissioner Dr. Shinde said the step aligns with NMMC’s vision of maximizing digitalization for the convenience of tech-savvy Navi Mumbai citizens. The Property Identity Card is expected to boost efficiency and transparency in the property tax system while adding another milestone to Navi Mumbai’s reputation.
