Navi Mumbai: With a low-pressure area forming over the Arabian Sea, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has declared a high alert in anticipation of heavy rainfall and stormy weather across the state over the next three to four days. Emergency measures have been activated to ensure uninterrupted power supply during this period and throughout the upcoming monsoon season.
MSEDCL Chairman and Managing Director Lokesh Chandra conducted a state-wide video conference review on Friday and directed officials to prioritize immediate power restoration in the event of any disruptions. He ordered the establishment of 24x7 emergency management control rooms at the headquarters and circle levels and instructed that no key personnel should leave headquarters without prior permission.
The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rainfall with strong winds in several districts of Konkan, Central Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha. Although the low-pressure system remains stationary, its influence is expected to intensify rainfall activity across these regions.
Chandra emphasized the importance of timely updates to consumers through SMS, WhatsApp groups, Twitter, and media if restoration work is expected to take time. "Headquarters will supervise the duration of outages, and delays without valid reasons will be dealt with seriously," Chandra directed the department.
Field engineers have been instructed to personally monitor and accelerate repairs in critical areas. MSEDCL has also mandated that all regional units keep essential materials such as poles, transformers, wires, and oil ready for quick deployment.
All engineers, staff, and agencies have been instructed to remain on standby with manpower, equipment, and vehicles to tackle storm-related damage. Chandra also stressed strict adherence to safety protocols during field operations.
