In a chilling case of one sided love that ended up in murder, a 21-year-old man was arrested by Vashi Police for allegedly murdering the husband of a married woman who had rejected his advances, and burying the body near the creek close to Vashi village.

The accused, identified as Aminur Ali Ahemadali Maulla, reportedly developed a one-sided romantic interest in the victim’s wife, Fatima Abubakar Mandal (25). After she refused his marriage proposal, Maulla allegedly decided to eliminate her husband, believing she might agree to marry him if her husband was no longer in the picture.

Few days back Fatima had told her husband about Maulla constantly harassing her for marriage to which her husband had told her that he would speak to him. “The accused was known to the victim family as they all belonged to West Bengal. The accused used to often visit victim’s house and play with their two daughters,” a police officer from Vashi Police station said.

According to the police, the incident happened on the evening of July 21 while her husband Abubakar Suhadali Mandal (35) was coming back from work, he decided to meet Maulla to warn him to not harass his wife. “The accused informed us that the victim came to his residence which we would verify in the investigations,” the officer added. Maulla then killed Mandal using a spade and he then placed the body in a sack, transported it late at night on a scooter, and buried it in the marshy land near the creek to destroy evidence. The clothes were dumped on his way to the creek side which the police recovered first.

On July 22 morning Fatima had approached the police with a missing person’s complaint as her husband had not returned from work the previous day. In her complaint, she also told the police that on the night of July 21, the accused had again called her to ask for marriage and when she denied, he told her that her husband wont return home. “She found something suspicious and hence she approached us in the morning. We then arrested him and, in the interrogation, he confessed to his crime and showed the spot where he buried the body,” the officer added.

The accused was presented before the court on Wednesday and has been remanded to police custody till June 28.
