Heavy rains that began late Sunday night disrupted daily life across Navi Mumbai, flooding major roads and impacting vehicular movement. The downpour, which continued through Monday, led to severe waterlogging on key routes including Thane-Belapur Road, Sion-Panvel Highway, and roads in the MIDC area, causing traffic snarls and inconvenience to office-goers. APMC market too was seen flooded.

According to data released by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), the average rainfall recorded across six nodes from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM on May 26 was 80.78 mm, with Nerul (155.70 mm) and Belapur (133.90 mm) being the worst-hit areas. The Morbe Dam, a crucial water source for the city, received 118 mm rainfall today, raising its water level to 74.32 meters.

Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde personally visited the Integrated Control Room on the first floor of the NMMC headquarters to review the situation via live CCTV footage from across the city. “The control room, equipped with 1275 CCTV cameras, helps us monitor and respond quickly to any emergency,” Dr. Shinde said. “We have directed all departments to remain alert and to take immediate action wherever necessary.”

Dr. Shinde also assured residents that outpatient services in municipal hospitals and health centers are running smoothly. “We’ve deployed additional dewatering pumps in low-lying areas to ensure there is no waterlogging during the high tide expected after 12 PM,” he added.

While Belapur and Nerul experienced the heaviest rain, the municipal machinery is said to be fully alert and responsive. The NMMC urged residents to contact the Disaster Management Centre at 022-27567060/61 or toll-free 1800222309/10 for any emergency assistance.
