Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has taken decisive action against unauthorized constructions in Airoli after property owners failed to comply with official notices.

The Encroachment Department, under the directives of Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde and the guidance of Additional Commissioner (zone II) Dr. Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Bhagwat Doiphode, carried out a demolition drive to remove illegal structures.

The drive targeted illegal structures in Sector 02, Airoli, where multiple properties had been constructed without NMMC’s approval. The affected properties included those owned by Mulchand Lalahari Nishad (C-217), Dhondiba Harisha Jadhav (C-266), and Shakuntala Unavane (B-457).

"These constructions were in violation of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966 (Section 54). Although we had previously issued notices instructing the owners to voluntarily remove the unauthorized structures, they failed to do so. Hence Encroachment Department carried out a partial demolition of the illegal buildings," said an official from NMMC.

The demolition was conducted under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner and Division Officer Dr. Ankush Jadhav, along with Junior Engineer Sandeep Mhatre. Officials and staff from G Division (Airoli), along with the Encroachment Police Team, were actively involved in the operation.

The team employed specialized equipment, including two gas cutters and three hammers, and utilized ten laborers to carry out the demolition efficiently.

The authorities have warned that similar crackdowns will be conducted in the future to ensure compliance with urban planning and development regulations.
