Navi Mumbai: Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) conducted a massive demolition drive against unauthorized constructions in Belapur, Turbhe, Airoli, and Vashi divisions. The action was taken after property owners ignored prior notices issued under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act, 1966.
The operation was carried out under the directives of Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde, with guidance from Additional Commissioner (2) Dr. Rahul Gethe and Deputy Commissioner (Encroachment) Mr. Bhagwat Doiphode. Officials have warned that such crackdowns will continue to curb illegal encroachments in the city.
Key demolitions were carried out across Navi Mumbai. In the Belapur division, an unauthorized construction at House No. 876/001, Karave Village, Sector 36, belonging to Nilesh Mahadev Mhatre and others, was demolished.

“Despite receiving a notice under Section 54 of the MRTP Act, the owners did not comply. A joint operation by NMMC and CIDCO successfully removed the structure. Assistant Commissioner Dr. Amol Palve and Junior Engineer Atmaram Kale led the operation with 10 laborers and security personnel,” an officer from NMMC said.
In the Turbhe division, authorities demolished three major illegal RCC buildings. A G+3 structure by Mohammad Shabir at House No. A-2/425, a G+3 structure by Hyatullah Maulana at House No. A-2/444, and a G+4 structure by Nandlal Yadav at House No. A-2/116, all at Sector 21.
Notices were served, but construction continued, prompting a demolition operation using two breakers and one gas cutte, said NMMC. The action was .overseen by Assistant Commissioner Prabodhan Mawade and Junior Engineer Vinod Ambre.
In the Airoli division, unauthorized structures at J-195, J-103, and J-104 in Sector 3, Airoli, were demolished after property owners failed to comply with notices. A partial demolition took place on March 6, 2025, led by Assistant Commissioner Dr. Ankush Jadhav and Junior Engineer Sandeep Mhatre. The operation utilized one gas cutter, three breakers, and eight laborers. Additionally, Rs 75,000 in fines was collected.
In the Vashi division, a total of 127 illegal slums in Sector 30A, Vashi, and the Vashigaon area were cleared from encroached NMMC and CIDCO land. The demolition was executed under Assistant Commissioner Alka Mahapurkar and Junior Engineer Mangesh Meher using laborers and JCB machines.

Municipal authorities have reiterated that unauthorized constructions will face strict action. The corporation has urged residents and businesses to ensure proper approvals to avoid demolition and penalties in the future.
