The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) organised a grand rehearsal Dahi Handi festival at Nerul’s Sector 2 on Sunday.
Over 100 Govinda teams from across Mumbai and Navi Mumbai participated.
The celebration saw several mandals form human pyramids of up to seven tiers, while others managed six and five tiers.
" This event is done exclusively to give the Govindas a means to rehearse before the main event to be held next week," said the city secretary Sachin Kadam.
The event was hosted by MNS City Joint Secretary Abhijeet Desai and Anushka Desai under the banner of the party’s Nerul–Juinagar division.
Present for the occasion was MNS leader Amit Thackeray. MNS Spokesperson and City President Gajanan Kale, along with office-bearers from various social organisations, housing societies, and women’s self-help groups were also part of the rehearsal
Each participating team was awarded cash prizes and mementos. Special attention was given by the MNS workers to ensure the safety of participants, especially those in the top tiers. " Helmet is compulsory for those trying to break the pot and additionally our workers are present around the tiers as well as we have ambulance and doctors on the stand by," informed Kadam
Patriotic chants and festival songs created a lively atmosphere as hundreds of citizens gathered to see the rehearsal. Similar Rehearsals were conducted in other parts of the city as well.
