Mumbai: In a crackdown on illegal drug and liquor trade, Navi Mumbai Police have arrested six individuals, including two women, for selling ganja, country-made liquor, and foreign liquor across different locations in the city. The raids resulted in the seizure of ganja worth Rs 2 lakh and liquor worth Rs 50,000.
The operations, led by APMC, Rabale MIDC, and Rabale police, targeted hotspots such as APMC market, Ghansoli village, and Advali Bhutvali areas. The arrests were made during a series of raids conducted on Thursday evening and night.
At around 10:30 PM on Thursday, APMC Police raided a house in the Ekta Nagar slum within the APMC market area, arresting Chand Abdul Shaikh (29) and Sunilkumar Rupchand Kumar (34) for possessing and selling ganja. The police seized Rs 68,000 worth of ganja, including leaves, flowers, stems, and seeds, along with Rs 8,000 in cash. Police are also searching for their alleged accomplices, Vijay and Roshan, who supplied the contraband.
Meanwhile, Rabale MIDC Police, acting on a tip-off, raided a house in the Advali Bhutvali area at around 5 PM and arrested two brothers, Sachin Pawar (36) and Vilas Pawar (52). The raid resulted in the seizure of ganja worth Rs 80,000 and liquor (both Indian-made foreign liquor and country-made liquor) worth Rs 34,000.
In a parallel operation, Rabale Police raided a house in Ghansoli village’s Sairam Niwas building, where they arrested two women, Ranjana Naik and Kavita Patil, for selling ganja and country-made liquor. Police seized 1.264 kg of ganja worth Rs 42,000 and 20 litres of country-made liquor from the residence.
"We have filed cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Maharashtra Prohibition Act against all six accused across the respective police stations—APMC, Rabale MIDC, and Rabale Police Stations and the further investigations are on," deputy commissioner of police, Zone I, Pankaj Dahane said.
