Navi Mumbai: Fire breaks out in Vashi APMC Fruit market

The fire spread to around 15 to 20 gallas in the market due to flammable items like wooden cartons, papers, dry grass and others.

A major fire broke out at the fruits market in Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) in Turbhe on Thursday between 4.30 pm and 5 pm. Seven fire engines have been sent by Vashi and Koparkhairane fire stations. 

According to an official from the Vashi Fire department, they received the fire call around 4.40 pm and at present, the operation is still going on. The fire broke out in the N wing of the Fruits Market in APMC located in Turbhe.

The fire spread to around 15 to 20 gallas in the market due to flammable items like wooden cartons, papers, dry grass and others. So far, no casualties were reported from the fire incident. “Most of the time, wooden cartons, papers, and dry grass are spread across the market for packaging fruits. Even fruits that arrive from other places come in similar cartons,” said a trader from APMC Vashi. So far, no casualties were reported from the fire incident.

Apart from the fire brigade, the police personnel from the APMC police station are also present.
