Navi Mumbai: To ensure the safety of tourists and prevent traffic congestion, the movement of heavy vehicles on the Alibag–Wadkhal stretch of National Highway 166A has been banned every Saturday and Sunday. District Collector Kishan Jawale issued an official notification putting the order into immediate effect.

The decision comes in response to the increasing tourist influx on weekends, which leads to severe traffic congestion on the route. The blockage not only causes inconvenience but also delays emergency services like ambulances and increases the risk of road accidents. The restriction was implemented based on suggestions from the Raigad Superintendent of Police as part of traffic management measures.

As per the order, heavy vehicle movement will be restricted on Saturdays from 8 am to 2 pm. On Sundays, the restriction will be in effect from 2 pm to 9 pm.

The ban applies to all heavy and oversized vehicles, including trucks, containers, and dumpers. "However, vehicles transporting essential commodities such as milk, diesel, petrol, LPG gas, medicines, oxygen, and vegetables are exempted from the restriction. Additionally, emergency vehicles including ambulances, police vans, fire brigade trucks, and vehicles assigned to women's empowerment programs are also allowed to operate during the restricted hours," the statement issued said.

This directive will remain in effect until further notice. Authorities expect the measure to offer local residents and tourists a safer and smoother travel experience on weekends.

District Collector Kishan Jawale has appealed to all motorists and citizens to cooperate with the order and plan their travel accordingly, keeping the restriction timings in mind.
