Navi Mumbai: A 40-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing his one-year-old daughter in a fit of rage after becoming irritated with her persistent crying. The incident took place on June 1 around 5 pm at Journal Devmala at Pen Taluka.

The accused identified as Suresh Dore 40, was trying to flee after the incident when the police nabbed him. "If he would have had fled, it would have been difficult to nab him as he doesn't own a mobile phone and is a daily wager," police inspector Prasad Pandhare from Wadkhal police station said.

According to Wadkhal police, the accused, who has been married three times, was living with four children at the time of the incident. The victim, a one-year-old girl- Vijaya alias Baby, was from his third marriage. The child’s mother had left him around a month and a half ago, reportedly due to repeated domestic abuse.

"His first two wives too had left him due to domestic abuse and third wife too left him a month and half ago. His eldest son was five year old, second son, four year year old then two daughters aged three and one. When the third wife left, she asked him to take of his children and left," the officer added.

The infant had been unwell and was reportedly crying incessantly on the day of the incident. Enraged by her crankiness, the accused allegedly slammed her head on the floor, leading to her death on the spot. The other kids rushed out to inform their uncle about it and they informed the police.

The man was arrested later that night just before the midnight. A case has been registered against him under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000.
