Navi Mumbai: In a collision between multiple vehicles that was reported on the Sion-Panvel Highway near the Jui Nagar Railway Station on Sunday afternoon, one person died while another person was injured.
According to police a minor accident was reported first on the Panvel lane wherein two vehicles had brushed against each other and crowd had gathered. The vehicles moving from the adjacent Mumbai lane had slowed down to witness what was happening on the Panvel lane.
A speeding dumper going towards Mumbai who could not judge the slow movement of the vehicle ahead, dashed against an Audit car that was ahead of him.
The complainant, Abhishek Milind Pingle (30), a resident of Juhu, who wa driving the Audi car, in his complaint has stated that due to the impact of the collision with dumper, his car collided with an Ertiga car on his right and a Eco car on his left, and also a motorcycle that came in between Ertiga and Audi car.
The motor cycle rider identified as Shivaji Bansi Lendal (39), a resident of Kharghar who worked as a line man with MSEDCL, was critically injured in the accident. He was rushed to a hospital wherein he was declared dead on arrival.
Meanwhile Rajkumar Chaurasiya, driver of Ertiga car who also sustained injuries, is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kharghar.
"The dumper driver fled from the spot after the accident and we are looking for him. A case has been registered against him," senior police inspector Brahmananda Naikwadi from Nerul police station said.
The driver has been booked under sections of reckless and rash driving causing death under BNS and sections of Motor Vehicle Act.
