Mumbai Youth Drowns While Filming Instagram Reel At Raigad Waterfall; Incident Caught On Camera

A 22-year-old youth Originally from Hyderabad, residing at Jogeshwari in Mumbai drowned while attempting to film a social media reel at a waterfall in the Channat reserve forest area near Kumbhe village in Mangaon taluka, Raigad district. The incident occurred on Sunday and was captured live on camera by the victim’s friend.

The deceased, Rishi Pathipaka, had visited the popular waterfall spot with a group of college friends. According to police and local sources, Pathipaka was filming a video for social media and jumped into the pool near the waterfall without estimating the strength of the water flow. He was swept away by the current and drowned before his friends could respond.

"The video, which was being recorded by a friend on Pathipaka's instructions, shows him diving into the pool and immediately struggling before disappearing under the turbulent water. The footage has now become a key part of the police investigation," a police officer from Mangaon police station said.

Following the incident, a rescue team was dispatched to the location. The team managed to retrieve the body after a strenuous operation in the remote forest area. The process of bringing the body back to the main road through the rugged, hilly terrain posed a significant challenge, one of the rescuers said. The body was later transported to Mangaon Rural Hospital for post-mortem examination.

The Mangaon police have registeredan accidental death report. "Initial findings suggest that Pathipaka’s death was the result of reckless behavior and lack of awareness of water conditions in the area, which has previously seen similar accidents," the officer added.

Last year too in the month of July, a 27 year old Charted Accountant turned travel influencer- Aanvi Kamdar-died after she fell into a gorge of around 300 ft at Kumbhe waterfalls in Mangaon Taluka of Raigad district.
