Mumbai: Rainfall continued to lash the city on Tuesday, with the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing two Nowcast Alerts for heavy rain spells at 10 am and 4 pm. The IMD has placed the districts of Mumbai and Thane under Orange Alert (heavy to very heavy rainfall) for July 24 and Yellow Alert (moderate to heavy rainfall) for remaining days of the week.
The weather department issued a warning for increase in heavy rainfall activity from July 21 to 25 across Maharashtra, prominently in the Konkan region due to cyclonic circulation.
Heavy Rain, Gusty Winds Forecast for Next 48 Hours in Mumbai
As per the local weather forecast, for the next 48 hours for Mumbai city and suburbs, the skies will be generally cloudy with heavy rain and possibility of occassional gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph.
The maximum and minimum temperatures would be 29°C and 24°C, respectively. The incessant rains has brought down the city temperature, however, humidity remains high.
107 mm Rainfall Recorded in Santacruz; City's Seasonal Total Crosses 1000 mm
In the last 24 hours (Monday 7 pm to Tuesday 7 pm), Mumbai's Santacruz observatory has recorded 107 mm rainfall, and since June 1 the observatory had recorded 1019 mm of rainfall.
In the last 24 hours, some of the weather stations in Mumbai which have recorded highest rainfall include: Haji Ali pumping station (82 mm), Malabar Hill (75 mm), Nair Hospital (73 mm), Lower Parel (61 mm), Chakala (62 mm), Vihar Lake (59 mm), Dongari Andheri (57 mm), Powai (49 mm) and others.
Widespread Heavy Rain Likely in Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra Till July 25: IMD
The weather warning issued by IMD on Monday stated, 'Widespread rainfall activity with Heavy to Very Heavy rainfall at a few places is very likely over Konkan and adjoining ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra is expected during the July 21 - 25 period. There is a possibility of lightning and thunder accompanied by occasional gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph.'

The IMD has attributed the weather change to an upper air cyclonic circulation over south Odisha and neighbourhood, and a fresh Low-Pressure area is likely to be form over north Bay of Bengal around July 24. Fishermen are advised not to venture until July 25.
