In a major step toward integrated urban mobility, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has been appointed by the Government of Maharashtra as the Nodal Agency for conceptualising and developing the Dharavi Multi-Modal Transit Hub (MMTH).

Mumbai: In a major step toward integrated urban mobility, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has been appointed by the Government of Maharashtra as the Nodal Agency for conceptualising and developing the Dharavi Multi-Modal Transit Hub (MMTH).

As the nodal authority, MMRDA is driving coordination with key stakeholders including Nationa High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd (NHSRCL) carrying out Bullet train project, the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL) carrying out underground Metro 3 and upcoming Metro 11, CSIA, Central & Western Railways, and BEST to bring about seamless connectivity across rail, metro, air, and bus networks.

The proposed preliminary scope of MMTH includes --Integration with suburban railway stations – Mahim, Sion, Chunabhatti, Connection with Metro Lines 2B(DN Nagar to Mandale), underground Metro 3 (Colaba--Bandra--SEEPZ), Metro 8 (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport to the under construction Navi Mumbai International Airport) and Metro 11(Anik Bus Depot and Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Chowk via underground station).

Additionally, Linkages to BKC Bullet Train Station, CSIA, and NMIA, Extension of BKC Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) to serve BKC and Dharavi and Development of a 24x7 urban hub with retail, hotels, offices, convention centre, restaurants, and cafés

According to MMRDA, To begin with, it will initiate the process of appointing a professional agency to carry out the feasibility study and detailed structuring of the MMTH project. Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, IAS, Commissioner, MMRDA, said, “This Multi-Modal Transit Hub is not just a transport integration project—it is a vision for inclusive urban transformation. We are committed to developing a sustainable, future-ready node that connects people, services, and opportunities seamlessly. After completing the feasibility study, MMRDA will propose a comprehensive implementation plan to ensure maximum modal integration and urban impact.”

The Dharavi MMTH will be a critical anchor for urban regeneration, improved mobility, and economic upliftment—underlining MMRDA’s commitment to transforming Mumbai into a globally connected metropolis.
