Mumbai: A tragic incident unfolded in Ghatkopar, Mumbai, where a 62-year-old man, Bhimrao Govind Salve, died by suicide on the night of July 8, at his residence in Ghatkopar, reportedly due to harassment from a girl's family following a police complaint related to his son's alleged love affair. The Pantnagar police have registered a case of abetment to suicide three individuals, the father of the girl involved; her uncle and her brother.
According to the police complaint filed by Jaya Manoj Khairnar,38, she resides with her family in Pantnagar, Ghatkopar East. Her father, Bhimrao, lived in Sanjay Gandhi Nagar, Ghatkopar East, with her mother Suman,55, and brother Santosh,30. The sequence of events began when Santosh allegedly became involved in a romantic relationship with a girl living in the same area.
Upon discovering the alleged affair, the girl's father, along with his family, reportedly verbally abused and physically assaulted Santosh on July 5. Furthermore, acting on the instructions of her parents, the girl filed a police complaint against Santosh for molestation. Frightened by this, Santosh left home and still missing.
As Santosh could not be found, the girl's family allegedly began to relentlessly pressure Bhimrao and his wife Suman. The police also called my father and our family to the station to inquire about my brother Santosh's whereabouts," Jaya stated.
They repeatedly demanded Santosh's immediate presence, issuing dire threats of "bad consequences" if he wasn't produced. Further, they reportedly threatened to falsely implicate Bhimrao himself in the case, pushing him into a state of extreme stress and anxiety.
On July 8, Suman had gone to a relative's house in Ulhasnagar to search for Santosh, leaving Bhimrao alone at home. Between 9:30 PM and 11:30 PM, he tragically hanged himself from an iron angle using a rope at his residence.
Upon receiving information, Pantnagar police immediately rushed to the spot and took Bhimrao to Rajawadi Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Based on Jaya's complaint, the police have registered a case under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act in connection with the incident.
