Mumbai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a drop up to 12 degrees Celsius in city temperature this weekend. It may go as low as 11 degrees on Monday.
IMD Colaba official Sushma Nair said, “The city will begin to experience nippy nights from Friday (tonight) due to dry northerly winds. The northern region of the country has already begun to experience snowfall and there is a cold wave warning as well in various areas . Mumbai will also experience the effects of this cold wave.”

According to the IMD, Jan 14-17, the minimum temperature will fluctuate between 11 and 14 degrees and the maximum temperature will range between 26 degrees and 29 degrees in Mumbai. However, other parts of Maharashtra, especially the interiors, will witness a further drop in temperature.
On Thursday, Santacruz witnessed a minimum temperature of 16.3 degrees and a maximum of 19.4 degrees, with 55% relative humidity. Colaba experienced a minimum temperature of 22.0 degrees and a maximum of 28 degrees, with 65% relative humidity.
The temperature drop in the city may lead to early morning and evening smog. According to the System of Air Quality Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), the AQI (Air Quality Index) of Mumbai was in the ‘poor’ category at 293 on Thursday. Meanwhile, Delhi recorded a ‘very poor’ AQI of 341. SAFAR has predicted that Mumbai would remain in the ‘poor’ category for the next two days.
