Mumbai: Yet another criminal case has been registered against an Uber driver in the city. The Bhandup Police have booked a driver identified as Nisar, operating an Uber rickshaw (MH 43 BF 0478), for allegedly misappropriating a bundle of high-quality linen fabric meant for garment manufacturing.
According to the FIR, the complainant, Rahul Tilak Lodaya,37, a garment businessman residing at Samarth Srishti, Datt Mandir Road, Bhandup (West), operates under the brand name Ananttara Studio. His office is located in Guru Nanak Industrial Estate, LBS Road, Bhandup (West), while the stitching unit functions from Ghaswala Compound, Parsiwadi, Ghatkopar (West).
Lodaya regularly orders premium fabric rolls from various suppliers to manufacture custom-designed blazers and shirts. On August 11, he booked an Uber rickshaw via the mobile app to transport 11 linen fabric rolls and one additional bundle (measuring around 50 meters) from his Bhandup office to the Ghatkopar unit.
The Uber app assigned a rickshaw driven by Nisar. He arrived at 2:12 PM to pick up the materials. While the workers at the Ghatkopar unit successfully received and unloaded the fabric rolls, the additional bundle was found missing.
When Lodaya questioned Nisar about the missing bundle, the driver claimed to be unaware of it and suggested it may have fallen off en route. He promised to retrace his route and check. Nisar reportedly checked up to R City Mall but later stopped answering calls.
Following this, Lodaya filed a complaint at the Bhandup Police Station, stating that the missing fabric bundle was worth Rs50,000. The police have registered a case against Nisar under Section 316(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act.
Investigations are underway, and police are also verifying if the driver has a history of similar offenses.
