Mumbai: Shiv Sena MLA Ramesh Latke passes away during vacation in Dubai

Latke was first elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from Andheri East in 2014 and defeated Congress' Suresh Shetty.

Shiv Sena MLA from Andheri East Ramesh Latke died of a cardiac arrest in Dubai. He was 52.

"Latke died late night on Wednesday in Dubai, where he had gone with his family on a vacation," said the Shiv Sena functionary. Latke, who was Shiv Sena corporator in BMC, was elected to the state assembly for the first time in 2014 defeating the veteran Congress leader Suresh Shetty. Later in 2019 Latke was re-elected from the same constituency defeating an independent M Patel.

In his condolence message, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said the Shiv Sena has lost a fighter and studious public representative. He further noted that Latke was a mass leader who was committed to development works.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said, ‘’ The news of the death of Shiv Sena MLA Ramesh Latke of Andheri-East Assembly constituency in Mumbai is shocking and it is a great loss to his constituency, Mahavikas Aghadi. We share the grief of their families, colleagues and party workers. A heartfelt tribute!’’

"Saddened and shocked to hear about the passing of Shri Ramesh Latke ji. His constant energy, his dedicated work during COVID & his connect with the constituency was immense. He will be missed, he has gone too soon. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and colleagues," said Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi.

Tourism Minister Aaditya Thackeray said, ‘’ Andheri MLA Ramesh Latke who is no longer with us, can't believe it. A heartfelt tribute to this Shiv Sainik.’’

BJP MLA Nitesh Rane said in a tweet, "Shocked to hear the news of Shiv Sena MLA Ramesh Latke's sudden demise! I Remember meeting him on a flight to kokan for angnewadi jatra just a few months back.’’
