Mumbai: On April 29, doctors advised the family to shift him to KEM Hospital in Parel. The next day, he was transferred by ambulance at 3:00 p.m. However, at 3:30 p.m. a doctor at KEM Hospital pronounced him dead. His 62-year-old mother filed a complaint against the tempo driver, Shubham Dere, who was later booked under Section 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Section 184 (dangerous driving) of the Motor Vehicles Act.
According to police reports, the victim, Sunil Reddy, a resident of Andheri East and an auto-rickshaw driver, was walking in front of the Marol fire bridge on EK Road when a tempo struck him from behind, causing head injuries. Although he initially refused treatment, he was taken to Holy Spirit Hospital but later complained of severe head pain.
Sunil was transferred to Cooper Hospital, where his condition worsened and he was declared dead. The tempo driver, accompanied by a friend, visited the hospital and offered to pay 40% of the treatment costs, which the family initially accepted. Later, Sunil’s mother filed the complaint after his death.
