Visuals of the mishap surfaced on social media, showing the bus crashed against the divider, slightly tilted, while vehicles cautiously navigated past. A video shot by a passing motorist showed the damaged bus blocking a portion of the road, contributing to a traffic jam in the area.
Authorities quickly responded to manage the scene and begin clearing the vehicle to restore traffic flow. The cause of the accident is yet to be confirmed, though early reports suggest a possible error in judgement or sudden loss of control.
Road Cave-in Halts Traffic Near Kemps Corner Amid Heavy Monsoon Showers
In a separate incident, a major road cave-in occurred near Kemps Corner in South Mumbai on Monday, severely disrupting traffic in the area. A section of the road between Kemps Corner and Mukesh Chowk developed cracks and collapsed near the Gangar showroom, causing a BEST bus to get stuck mid-route.
Traffic movement towards Nepean Sea Road was completely shut following the collapse. Authorities immediately cordoned off the area and rerouted several BEST bus services, routes 104, 121, 122, 132, and 135, via alternate roads including Peddar Road, Cadbury Junction and Bhulabhai Desai Road.
Early Monsoon Arrival In City
The incident coincided with the official arrival of the southwest monsoon in Mumbai. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon reached the city on May 26, making it the earliest onset in over 15 years, well ahead of the usual June 11 date. While repair work is underway, officials have urged motorists to avoid the affected stretch.
