Mumbai: Mumbai woke up to light to moderate rains in several parts of the city on Thursday morning, after a week-long dry spell. The showers continued to batter the city overnight in some areas. The city is likely to experience its typical hot and humid conditions today, with discomfort expected to peak during the afternoon.

Light To Moderate Rainfall Predicted In City & Surrounding Region

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall across several parts of the city and adjoining regions, as part of the ongoing monsoon activity, which has shown signs of weakening this August.

According to a Nowcast warning issued at 7:00 am, light spells of rain are likely in isolated areas of Mumbai and Thane over the next few hours. While the intensity of the monsoon has reduced in recent weeks, intermittent rain showers continue along the Konkan coastline, including parts of Mumbai.

Traffic snarls are expected at various low-lying areas due to continuous rainfall. No major waterlogging incident has been reported yet. Local train services were running smoothly on all suburban rail lines today, with minor delays.

Rainfall Prediction For City Areas

In South Mumbai, areas such as Gateway of India, Marine Drive and Colaba may receive light to moderate showers. Central Mumbai localities like Dadar, Sion, Kurla and Matunga are also expected to witness overcast skies with some rainfall. Western suburbs including Bandra, Khar, Vile Parle and Andheri may see scattered spells of rain, while Eastern suburbs such as Ghatkopar, Chembur and Bhandup are also likely to be affected.

In Navi Mumbai and Thane, areas like Vashi, Nerul, Koparkhairane, Ghansoli and the Thane belt can expect light to moderate rain through the day. Palghar, especially its coastal regions, may see light showers, with the possibility of slightly heavier rainfall by evening.

Humidity Remains High

The humidity level in Mumbai is expected to remain between 75 and 85 percent, contributing to a muggy and uncomfortable feel throughout the day, particularly during periods when rainfall is absent. The sky is likely to stay mostly cloudy, with occasional clear or partly cloudy intervals. Light showers are more probable in the morning and evening, while the afternoon may bring a rise in both temperature and humidity.

No red or orange weather alerts have been issued at this time, but a yellow alert may be in place for parts of the Konkan region, indicating a chance of heavy rain in some isolated pockets.

Monsoon intensity has notably dropped in Mumbai during August, and this trend may continue into early September. However, meteorologists are monitoring a potential new system forming over the Bay of Bengal after August 11–12, which could lead to increased rainfall across Maharashtra, including Mumbai, in the following weeks.
