Mumbai: Mumbai woke up to moderate to heavy showers on Friday, August 15. The city and its suburbs are likely to experience generally cloudy skies today, with intense showers in some areas, amid Independence Day celebrations. A yellow alert has been issued today by the weather department.

Moderate to heavy rain has been forecast for Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai and Palghar, with a warning of heavy rain between August 15 and 18, which could lead to waterlogging and possible flood-like situations in the city.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and other weather forecast agencies, rainfall activity is expected to intensify from August 15 onwards, particularly across the Konkan and western Maharashtra regions.

The maximum temperature in Mumbai is likely to hover around 30°C, while the minimum will be about 26°C. Heavy showers, combined with high tide, may result in waterlogging in low-lying areas, especially in coastal parts of the city. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai on August 15, warning of light to moderate rain with heavy spells in isolated areas.

Local train services across Mumbai’s suburban network are running smoothly for now, but civic officials remain on alert for potential disruptions. No major reports of flooding or traffic snarls have been reported yet.

Mumbai's Wettest Day Of August Recorded

Meanwhilem, Mumbai experienced its wettest day of the month in the 24-hour period between Wednesday 9 pm and Thursday 9 pm, with most parts of the city recording more than 50 mm of rainfall.

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the highest rainfall was reported in Malad, Madh (86 mm), followed by Malpa Dongari, Andheri (72 mm), Paspoli, Powai (63 mm), Vihar Lake (57 mm), Pali Hill (56 mm), Colaba Pumping Station (54 mm), Sewri (52 mm), Ghatkopar (51 mm) and Worli Naka (50 mm), among other locations.

Alert Issued Across Various Districts In State

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a further increase in rainfall activity over the coming days, particularly across Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra. Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and Raigad have been placed under a yellow alert until August 19, with an orange alert in effect for August 17, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall.

The IMD has also sounded a yellow alert for the entire Marathwada and Vidarbha regions for moderate to heavy rainfall over the next few days. Pune, Kolhapur, and the ghats of Satara are under an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rain.
