The Deonar Police have registered a case against Priyanka Narkar for allegedly stealing nine tablets and a laptop from the Empower Library and Study Center located in Govandi. The accused, Narkar was employed at the center through an NGO named ‘Prayas’ since January 2024.

According to the police complaint filed by Priya Sachin Shinde,40, the Center Manager, states that the theft was discovered on April 14, 2025, when the library was closed for a holiday. Despite the closure, a NEET test was scheduled for students, prompting Shinde to access the device cabinet, where she noticed multiple tablets missing.

Shinde stated that the center provided students with tablets to aid in their studies, including 24 tablets from Redmi and 8 from Lenovo. Students were required to sign a register before borrowing the devices. Narkar was responsible for the custody and collection of the tablets from the students.

According to Shinde, Narkar had reported the previous evening that all devices had been collected and secured. However, she did not report to work on April 14 due to a public holiday. Upon verification, nine tablets—used regularly by students—were found missing.

When questioned, security personnel and students confirmed that the device room remained locked and undisturbed. Review of CCTV footage and the register indicated that Narkar had taken the nine tablets along with a laptop, a charger, and a laptop bag.

When confronted, Narkar reportedly admitted to taking the items and promised to return them, but failed to do so. Based on the evidence, the police have registered an FIR under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Further investigation is underway.
