Mumbai: TV actor and social media influencer Uorfi Javed appeared before Oshiwara police a few days back in connection with a case registered against her for ‘maligning’ the image of Mumbai Police.

Mohan Patil, senior inspector, Oshiwara police station, said a notice was issued to her under Section 41A (notice of appearance before police officer) of the Code of Criminal Procedure after the case was registered. He added, The Supreme Court has said an individual accused of a crime entailing a maximum punishment of seven years should not be arrested ‘mechanically’.

Last month Javed and three junior artistes recorded a video showing two women dressed as cops arresting the actor for wearing “chote chote kapde”.

It was later revealed that the video was created as promotional content for a self promotion. However, on social media, where the video was shared without any context, many assumed that Javed had been arrested for wearing short clothes. Mumbai Police issued a clarification on X stating, “One Can’t Violate Law Of The Land, For Cheap Publicity! A viral video of a woman being allegedly arrested by Mumbai Police, in a case of obscenity is not true – insignia & uniform has been misused.”

A case was filed against Urfi and the other artistes at Oshiwara station on November 3. The charges included Sections 171 (carrying a token used by a public servant with fraudulent intent), 419 (cheating), 500 (defamation) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
