Mumbai: Residents living along the Sion-Panvel highway in the Mankhurd area will be surveyed and rehabilitated through the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA), Public Works Minister Shivendra Raje Bhosale announced today.
The Sion-Panvel highway is a special state highway under the jurisdiction of the Public Works Department (PWD). Over the years, many citizens have built and settled along the highway limits in the Mankhurd area.
Minister Bhosale has directed officials to conduct a detailed survey of these settlements through the SRA and ensure proper rehabilitation as per government policy.

A meeting was held today at the Minister’s chamber in the state legislature to address the concerns of residents from Sahyadri Mitra Mandal Chawl Committee, Mahatma Phule Nagar (Shindewadi), and areas near Yashwantrao Chavan National Highway in Mankhurd.
The meeting was attended by MLA Sana Malik Shaikh, PWD Secretary (Roads) Sanjay Dashpute, Deputy Secretary Sudhir Shingade, and other relevant officials.
Minister Bhosale stated that unauthorized structures, including slums and shops, had been found within the highway’s jurisdiction. For safety reasons, these encroachments have been removed.
“To ensure justice for the poor and displaced, a proper survey should be conducted and the rehabilitation process should be initiated through the SRA in accordance with the government’s policies,” the minister said.
