Mumbai: The Rotary Club of Bombay Bayview donated an ambulance for under strata communities of Melghat to commemorate their 23rd charter day.
The Rotary Club of Bombay Bayview includes members from some of the most upscale areas of Mumbai, like Breach Candy, Nepean Sea Rd, Kemps Corner, and Marine Drive. The non-governmental organisation is very active in social work in the tribal areas around Mumbai.
On Sunday, the NGO commemorated its 23rd charter day by donating a 20-seater ambulance to MAHAN Trust, an NGO working for the underprivileged communities in Melghat near Amravati, which lies on the border of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. Through this initiative, the NGO aims to not only address a critical gap in healthcare access but also to symbolise hope and timely intervention for countless families in need.

MAHAN Trust is run by a well-known doctor couple, Dr Ashish Satav and his wife, Dr Kavita Satav, who have been serving in the tribal area of Melghat since 1997. So far, the duo has treated more than 1.50 lakh people and saved the lives of more than 3,500 seriously ill patients.
Rajni Barasia, president of the club, said, “For over two decades, our club has stood strong in its mission to serve humanity with integrity and empathy. This achievement is more than a milestone. It’s a promise that our journey of service will continue to evolve, deepen, and reach even the most remote corners where help is needed.”

Rotary Club of Bombay Bayview has also been organising ‘Samuhik Vivah’ for the underprivileged tribal couples living in the remote villages of Palghar since 2022. The most recent group wedding was organised on December 15, 2024, which got 25 such couples married, taking the total figure to 100 couples.
