Mumbai: MHADA's budget for 2025-2026 aims to build 19,497 houses across its regional boards, with an allocation of Rs 9202.76 crore. The Mumbai board plans to construct 5,199 houses, while the Konkan board targets 9,902 houses, with budget provisions of Rs 5749.49 crore and Rs 1408.85 crore, respectively.

However, MHADA houses outside Mumbai have seen low applicant response, resulting in over 11,000 available houses statewide, particularly in the Konkan region. This leads to questions about the ongoing large-scale construction there.

MHADA's recently submitted revised budgets have received approvals, including a Rs 15956.92 crore budget for 2025-2026 and Rs 10901.07 crore for 2024-25. The new housing projects also include provisions for 1,836 houses in Pune, 692 in Nagpur, and several others across various circles.

Specific allocations include Rs 371.20 crore for the Chandrapur Special Planning Authority and Rs 350 crore for the Textile Park Empress Mill Scheme.

Additionally, MHADA plans to spend Rs 33.85 crore on selling dilapidated houses in Virar Bolinj while providing amenities like a clubhouse and pool. A budget of Rs 115 crore is earmarked for the Gotheghar Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban).

Concerns arise regarding expenditures on decrepit housing. The budget allows Rs 15 crore for a healthcare center in Thane and funds for various projects like old age homes and hostel constructions.

Mill workers have been let down, receiving only Rs 57.50 crore for their housing. Other allocations include significant amounts for rehabilitation and slum improvement projects, while the Mumbai Board has dedicated Rs 2800 crore for the redevelopment of BDD chawls.
