A man accused of promoting communal disharmony through social media was produced before the Esplanade Court today for the second time. The court has remanded him to 14 days of judicial custody.

Kasle was arrested in Delhi on May 31 and was earlier held in two-day police custody. With that custody ending today, the Crime Branch once again presented him in court, requesting further custody to investigate his motives and verify the source of the controversial videos he circulated.

The public prosecutor argued that Kasle’s intent behind exposing alleged evidence against political figures needed to be investigated thoroughly, hence the request for extended custody. However, Kasle’s lawyer, Navnath Devkate, opposed the plea, stating that his client had been cooperating fully from the beginning and that further police custody was unwarranted.

After hearing both sides, the court denied additional police custody and sent Kasle to judicial custody until June 16. In a dramatic turn of events, Kasle shouted slogans like “Inquilab Zindabad” and “Maharashtra Sarkar Hay Hay” outside the court premises before being swiftly taken away in a police jeep.

Kasle’s lawyer, Navnath Devkate, further informed the press that a bail application has been filed and emphasized that Kasle’s arrest was illegal. “The allegations need to be investigated thoroughly to determine whether they are true or false. His arrest violates due process,” he stated.
