The work of refilling the huge trench behind Tata Garden at Breach Candy along the Coastal Road will be completed in the next 10 days. “The contractor has started the work and it is filled halfway. In the next 8 to 10 days, the pit will be filled up to high tide level so that the rain water does not accumulate. The ground surface levelling work will continue after that,” said an official from the BMC Coastal Road department.
The 6000 sq m wide and 9 feet deep pit was dug up to the foundation level for the underground parking project. However, after the project was stalled following objections by the local residents, the pit lay open.

After the FPJ had reported on May 28 that the pit had become a health hazard as accumulated rainwater became a breeding spot for mosquitoes, the BMC ordered L&T- the contractor for the project, to fill it. The work started on May 30.
