Mumbai: The Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Bhushan Gagrani carried out a detailed walking inspection this morning along the entire Marine Drive stretch, from Nariman Point to Swarajyabhoomi (Girgaon Chowpatty). The inspection aimed at reinforcing efforts to preserve and enhance the natural beauty of this iconic Mumbai landmark.
During his visit, Gagrani issued several important directives to maintain consistent cleanliness along the promenade. He stressed the need for proper upkeep of trees and seating benches, emphasised preventing litter accumulation in medians, and recommended minimising unnecessary signage to reduce visual clutter.
Furthermore, Gagrani suggested improving the overall aesthetics of the area by enhancing the colour, design, and arrangement of the light poles. He instructed that the entire Marine Drive stretch be cleaned daily and that roadside barricades be neatly arranged. He also ordered the prompt removal of construction materials near the Chhoti Chowpatty area at Swarajyabhoomi to uphold cleanliness and order.
The inspection was attended by Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Zone 1) Smt. Chanda Jadhav, Deputy Commissioner of Police Prashant Pardeshi, Officer on Special Duty Chandrashekhar Chore, along with Assistant Commissioners and other municipal officials and staff, are all working collectively towards maintaining Marine Drive’s charm and cleanliness.

BMC Halts Payments To Agency After Unregistered Doctor Found Working In VN Desai Hospital ICU
In a separate news story related to BMC, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a clarification concerning the appointment of a doctor in the intensive care unit (ICU) of VN Desai Hospital, Santacruz, who was found to be unregistered with the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC). The civic body confirmed that it has suspended all payments to the contractor agency, Sai Sanjivani, and has issued multiple show-cause notices following allegations of employing unregistered doctors at the hospital.
The issue was reported by The Free Press Journal in its August 5, 2025, edition. According to the report, Dr. Bharat Sawant was working in the ICU without a valid MMC registration. The BMC clarified that the hospital had contracted Sai Sanjivani to provide trained and MMC-registered medical personnel. However, when the credentials were submitted for verification in February 2025, the MMC confirmed that no valid registration existed for Dr. Sawant. Additionally, the certificate provided during the contracting process was declared invalid.
