Navi Mumbai: The Ghansoli Shelter Home, operated by the Social Development Department of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) was inspected by Maharashtra Legislative Council Member (MLC) Chitra Wagh.
MLC Visits Ghansoli Shelter Home Following Viral Video
The visit was to inspect its operations and services provided as there were media reports about rampant irregularities following a video circulated on July 26 allegedly showing a quarrel inside the women's section of the shelter.
Facility Houses 98 Homeless Individuals Since March
The Ghansoli Shelter Home, located in Sector 4, has been operational since March 15, 2024, in a dedicated building. As of now, it houses a total of 98 homeless individuals, including 48 women, 48 men, and 2 children, as informed by Deputy Commissioner Mr. Kisanrao Palande.
Women Confirm Timely Meals, Medical Care
The MLC interacted with the women beneficiaries residing at the shelter and inquired about the facilities being provided. The women shared that they receive timely meals breakfast, lunch, and dinner along with regular health check-ups and medical treatment. The politician also looked into the backgrounds and the circumstances that led the inmates seek refuge at the shelter.
CCTV Footage Reviewed for Women’s Safety
She also inspected other arrangements at the facility and monitored CCTV cameras to ascertain the safety provided for the women. Following her inspection, the member also said of visiting other shelter in Nmmc jurisdiction.
