Mumbai: The 30-year contract system of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for toilets is extremely restrictive, depriving citizens of adequate facilities. This contract should be cancelled and a new process implemented, suggested Shri Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Minister for Skill Development, Employment, Entrepreneurship & Innovation and Guardian Minister of Mumbai Suburban District. In this regard, Shri Lodha has written a letter to BMC Commissioner Shri Bhushan Gagrani.

Citizens Raise Complaints

Several citizens raised complaints on this issue during the Janata Darbar (public grievance hearing) organized in the F/North ward of the Corporation. MLA Prasad Lad and Captain Tamil Selvan were also present on the occasion.

Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis has instructed cabinet members to interact directly with the public to resolve their issues. Accordingly, Minister Shri Mangal Prabhat Lodha has been organizing ward-wise Janata Darbars to understand citizens’ difficulties.

About The Initiative

As part of this initiative, in the Janata Darbar organized in the F/North ward of the Sion-Koliwada constituency, citizens listed several problems related to toilets. They stated that due to the 30-year contract, contractors are running the toilets arbitrarily, without providing any proper facilities.

Citizens complained about leaking roofs, unhygienic toilets, broken doors, and lack of lighting in many locations. Minister Lodha took immediate note of these grievances and instructed Assistant Municipal Commissioner Shri Arun Kshirsagar, who was present, to take prompt action on the matter.

Around 300 citizens participated in this Janata Darbar, both online and offline, in the F/North ward of the Sion-Koliwada constituency. Citizens expressed satisfaction at being able to connect with officials from various departments under one roof. Minister Lodha also directed senior BMC officials to take prompt action on road repairs, water supply, electricity supply, and cleanliness during Ganeshotsav. On this occasion, MLA Shri Tamil Selvan also thanked Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha for organizing the Janata Darbar in his constituency.
