Mumbai Metro 9 Progress Update: CM Fadnavis Flags Off Trial Runs of Phase 1
Mumbai’s Metro-9 project, which will link Dahisar (East) to Mira-Bhayandar, is making steady progress and is on schedule for a phased rollout. The first phase is expected to be inaugurated by the end of 2025. On Wednesday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde, flagged off the trial runs for Phase 1 of the corridor, which stretches from Dahisar (East) to Kashigaon.
The leaders also carried out a technical inspection of the route, marking a significant milestone in the development of the key infrastructure project. Known as the Red Line, Metro-9 is an extension of the already operational Metro-7 (Dahisar East to Andheri East).
The new line is expected to significantly boost east-west connectivity in the suburbs, reduce travel time, and help decongest roads across northern Mumbai and Mira-Bhayandar. During the initial phase of operations, Metro-9 trains will be serviced and maintained at the Charkop depot, which is currently used by Metro-7.
