Commuters on Mumbai’s Western Railway line are set to face major disruptions this weekend, as Western Railway has announced a 36 hour block at Kandivali Yard. Due to this block, over 160 suburban trains will be cancelled.
The block will begin at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 31, and continue until 1:00 AM on Monday, June 2. It will be undertaken on the 5th line and yard lines at Kandivali, significantly affecting both suburban and long-distance train operations. During the block period, suburban and mail/express trains will run on the fast line.
According to an official of WR, the planned block will lead to the cancellation of approximately 160 local train services, including both fast and slow suburban trains. On Saturday, May 31, around 70 suburban services will be cancelled, including nearly 50 fast services. On Sunday, June 1, the disruption will increase, with around 90 cancellations, including almost 60 fast trains.

In addition to suburban disruptions, four express trains will either be short-terminated or short-originated due to the block. Train No. 19418 Ahmedabad–Borivali Express (journeys starting May 30 and 31) will be short-terminated at Vasai Road, with the Vasai Road–Borivali segment cancelled. Similarly, Train No. 19425 Borivali–Nandurbar Express (journeys on May 31 and June 1) will short-originate from Bhayandar, cancelling the Borivali–Bhayandar leg. Additionally, Train No. 19426 Nandurbar–Borivali Express (journey on May 31) will terminate at Vasai Road, with no service between Vasai Road and Borivali. Furthermore, Train No. 19417 Borivali–Ahmedabad Express (journey on June 1) will start from Vasai Road, cancelling the Borivali–Vasai Road portion.
Western Railway has advised all passengers to check detailed train timings and modifications with station masters or on official railway portals. "Travelers are urged to make alternate travel arrangements in advance to avoid last-minute inconvenience." said an official
"This significant block is part of essential infrastructure upgrades and maintenance work aimed at improving operational efficiency and safety at Kandivali Yard" further added official.
