Mumbai: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on Thursday August 14th launched the inauguration of four significant infrastructure projects that marks a transformative leap in Mumbai’s urban development and metro expansion.
These projects were inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, along with Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Chairman MMRDA; Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and other prominent officers, Ministers.
The four projects unveiled are the Mumbai Metro Simulator Training Centre at Mandale Depot, the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) extension corridor, the Metro Staff Residence Building at Malvani, and Kalanagar Sub Flyover (Arm D). These projects are set to significantly enhance Mumbai’s urban mobility, strengthen infrastructure resilience, and boost workforce capabilities.
Project features:
1. SANTACRUZ Chembur link road Extension-
• South Asia’s First sharp curvature span 100-m radius cable stayed bridge
• Signal-free connectivity between Eastern and Western Express highway
• Saves approximately 1 hour of travel time from Chembur to vileparle
• 215-m orthotropic steel deck; total length 1.66 km; width 8.50 m

2. MMTI- MUMBAI METRO TRAINING INSTITUTE
• Largest metro training centre in India
• Simulation-based driving and maintenance training
• Built to international standards
• Capacity for 144 trainees at a time
• Savings of ₹255 crore in training costs in 10 yrs.
• Ability to train metro employees from across India

3. Staff quarters Malad Malvani
• Residential facility for Maha Mumbai Metro staff
• Two 20-storey buildings with 156 flats each (1&2 BHK)
• Equipped with fireproof doors and safety systems
• Robotic car parking & 241 flats are under construction
Cost-90 crore
4. KALANAGAR Flyover D Arm:
• East-west link between Dharavi and Bandra Worli Sea Link
• Signal-free travel from South Mumbai to Dharavi
• Constructed in limited available space
• Length 340 m; width 8.5 m
Cost-20 crore
Devendra Fadnavis Stated that, MMRDA has been delivering engineering marvels that are transforming Mumbai’s connectivity. While Deputy Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde, & Chairman MMRDA said that the Metro is Mumbai’s lifeline. It will ease the load on our railways and give citizens relief from traffic congestion.
MMRDA has completed challenging projects using advanced technology, and the government is committed to delivering people-centric projects without compromising on quality. With STPs coming online, our seas will be blue again.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Said, “The projects inaugurated today by MMRDA are not just structures of concrete, steel, and technology, but a guarantee of speed, quality, and safety for Mumbai’s future. These projects will make the city’s transport network more robust, efficient, and environmentally friendly. The rapid expansion of the Metro will provide safe and comfortable travel for citizens, while projects like the Coastal Road have eased traffic pressure.”
