Mumbai: A 36-year-old man lost his life in a tragic hit-and-run accident on the Eastern Express Highway near Amar Mahal Junction in Chembur on July 13. The victim, Shahid Salim Mansuri, was riding a motorcycle with his wife when a speeding tempo struck them from behind and fled the scene.

According to the police, Mansuri, who worked as a bodyguard for a construction businessman, was a resident of Meghwadi, Labour Camp, Matunga (West). Around 5 PM on Saturday, he had gone to Mankhurd's Lallubhai Compound to pick up his wife, Iram, from her maternal home.

While returning home with his wife on a two-wheeler (MH 01 EP 3308), the couple was hit from behind by a speeding tempo as they descended the bridge past Amar Mahal Junction on the Eastern Express Highway in Chembur (East). The impact flung them onto the divider, leaving both seriously injured.

The tempo driver fled the scene immediately after the accident. Locals alerted the police and rushed the couple to Sion Hospital. Mansuri, who suffered a severe head injury, was admitted to the ICU, but doctors declared him dead at 10:25 PM. His wife, Iram, remains hospitalized and is undergoing treatment for her injuries.

Based on a complaint filed by Mansuri’s father, Salim,59, the Nehru Nagar Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act. A manhunt has been launched to trace the absconding tempo driver.
