Mumbai: The Parel-based Gleneagles Hospital announced the launch of its latest robotic-assisted surgery program for knee and hip replacements. This technology is designed to enhance surgical accuracy, minimize recovery time, and deliver superior patient outcomes, reaffirming the hospital’s commitment to clinical excellence and innovation.

About The System

According to Gleneagles Hospital, the robotic system empowers surgeons to create highly personalised surgical plans using advanced imaging and enables real-time adjustments during procedures, optimizing results for each patient. Robotic-assisted surgeries represent a significant leap forward in orthopaedics, offering enhanced precision, reduced blood loss, and minimal disruption to soft tissue.

The hospital’s orthopaedics team, led by eminent specialists including Dr. Anup Khatri, Dr. Girish Bhalerao, Dr. Shridhar Archik, Dr. S. V. Vaidya, and Dr. Neelkanth Dhamnaskar, is spearheading this transformative approach. Among the first to benefit from this breakthrough was 80-year-old Bharat Chauhan, who underwent a successful robotic knee replacement on May 27, after enduring 15 years of chronic joint pain.

“I was really scared of the surgery, but I had no choice left due to the intense pain. Now, I feel like I have a new lease on life. The day after the operation, I was pain-free. I can now walk freely and am regaining my strength every day,” Chauhan shared after being discharged just a week post-surgery.

Another patient, 40-year-old Sandhya Singh from Virar, suffered severe ligament tears in her right leg after a fall. She underwent robotic-assisted surgery on her right leg and conventional surgery on her left. “Before the surgery, even walking was difficult. Now, I am regaining stability and mobility thanks to the expertise of the doctors and the advanced robotic system,” she said.

Dr. Bipin Chevale, CEO of Gleneagles Hospital, said, “Our mission is to bring state-of-the-art healthcare to our patients. The successful robotic surgery of Mr. Chauhan is a testament to our commitment to clinical excellence and patient-first innovation. With robotics, we are not only enhancing surgical precision but also empowering patients to reclaim their quality of life faster and with greater confidence.”
