In a major drug haul that took place Wednesday, 350kg heroin worth Rs 1,725 crore, was seized by Delhi Police Special Cell from Nhava Sheva port neighbouring Mumbai.

The contraband container having more than 22 tonnes of Licorice coated with heroin was seized from Nhava Sheva Port by the Special Cell of Delhi Police in one of the biggest seizures of narcotics trafficking.

Licorice is a herb that grows in parts of Europe and Asia.

“The value of heroin seized is said to be approximately Rs 1,725 crore. The seizure indicates how narco terror is impacting our country and international players are using different methodologies to push drugs into our country," said Special Commissioner of Police HGS Dhaliwal speaking to the media.

The container had 22 tonnes of Licorice of which 345 kgs of heroin was coated, he informed.

The massive drug haul comes exactly a year after the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), in September 2021, made the largest narcotics contraband seizure weighing 3,000 kg worth Rs 21,000 crore at Mundra port in Gujarat.

DRI had seized the heroin concealed in a consignment of semi-processed talc stone in September 2021 at Container Freight Station, Mundra Port.
