Mumbai: In a significant breakthrough, officers from BKC Police Station have arrested three individuals involved in a fake gold scam on Wednesday, where a man was duped of Rs 2 lakh. The accused allegedly created a bogus Instagram account offering imported gold at discounted rates and lured unsuspecting buyers with the promise of profitable deals.
The accused were caught near CST Road in Kalina, Santacruz East, after police laid a trap based on specific inputs. One of the suspects tried to escape in a BMW car towards Kurla, but after a short chase and foot pursuit, all three were arrested from different locations. According to the police, the incident took place on May 27, as reported by Lokmat Times.

At the meeting spot, the victim handed over Rs 2 lakh in cash. The accused then pretended to be police officers and staged a fake raid to confuse and scare him. They quickly fled the spot without giving any gold.
As per the report, a case was registered at BKC Police Station under sections 318(4) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). During the investigation, police used technical surveillance and local sources to track the suspects. They received a tip that the accused would return to the same area on June 2. That’s when the police set up a trap and managed to arrest them after a brief chase.

Further investigation revealed that the trio had been involved in similar cheating cases in Maharashtra and Gujarat. The police have warned people to stay alert while dealing with online offers and to always verify the source before making any payments.
