Mumbai: A 32-year-old woman sustained injuries after being shot in the hand during an accidental firing incident in Mumbai's Dharavi area on Sunday night. The incident occurred while the woman was shopping along the 90 Feet Road stretch in Dharavi.
Accused Nabbed From Trombay, Weapon Seized
According to Shahunagar Police, the accused identified as Mohammad alias Ajju Yakub Sheikh (37), a resident of Trombay’s Chita Camp was arrested from his locality shortly after the incident. A country-made pistol was recovered from his possession.

Firing Was Accidental, Say Police
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Mahendra Pandit stated that the firing appeared to be accidental. “While trying to remove a bullet from the chamber, the accused inadvertently pulled the trigger, which resulted in the bullet being fired. There was no intention to shoot the victim,” he clarified.
Police Probe Criminal History, Weapon Source
The accused was produced in court and has been remanded to four days of police custody. Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the weapon and verify whether the accused has a prior criminal record.
