Mumbai Crime News: Two Held For Robbing Cab Passenger At Knifepoint After Diverting Route

According to police, the complainant had booked a cab through a ride-hailing app from Marine Drive to Kalina. During the journey, the accused diverted the route and took the passenger to a secluded stretch near Air India Road.

Mumbai: In a joint operation, the Crime Branch teams of Vakola and V.P. Road Police Stations have arrested two individuals for allegedly robbing a cab passenger at knifepoint after luring him to a deserted area under the pretense of an online cab ride.

According to police, the complainant had booked a cab through a ride-hailing app from Marine Drive to Kalina. During the journey, the accused diverted the route and took the passenger to a secluded stretch near Air India Road. There, the duo allegedly threatened the victim with a knife and forcibly took two mobile phones and ₹2,500 via an online app transfer.

Following their arrest, both accused confessed to the crime during police interrogation. The police recovered stolen items, including four mobile phones worth ₹44,250 and three knives used in the robbery.

A criminal case has been registered under Sections 308(4), 3(5), and 4,25 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police are also investigating whether the accused are involved in similar incidents.

Authorities have urged citizens to stay vigilant while using ride-hailing services and to immediately contact Police Helpline 100 or the nearest police station in case of emergencies.
