Mulund Police have registered a case against an unknown 22-year-old man for allegedly attacked and attempting to murder a 59-year-old retired Chartered Accountant (CA), Chandrakant Chhaganlal Shah. The shocking incident occurred on May 31, stemmed from an argument over ATM usage at an HDFC Bank, Vina Nagar branch, in Mulund West. Shah was allegedly attacked with a stone during the altercation.
According to the FIR, Shah, a resident of Royal Touch Building, Yogi Hills, Mulund West, visited the HDFC Bank ATM at Vina Nagar branch around 8:25 PM on May 31, to withdraw cash. A younger man, who was already at the ATM, was repeatedly withdrawing small amounts of money.
Shah reportedly asked the man to make a single, larger withdrawal to save time. Angered by this, the man allegedly started verbally abusing Shah, saying, "This is my bank, my money. I'll do as I please. Who are you to tell me?" When Shah asked him to "speak with respect," the man became enraged.
He then allegedly physically assaulted Shah and threatened to break into his house and beat him up. As Shah attempted to call the police for help, the man picked up a stone from the road with both hands and threw it towards Shah's head. Shah dodged, but the stone struck his thigh, causing serious injury.
Onlookers intervened to resolve the dispute, the assailant allegedly threatened Shah, saying, "I have your name and address. You don't know me. Watch, I'll bring my people and break into your house to kill you." The unknown attacker left on a motor scooter (MH 05 EB 0594) with a female companion, believed to be his sister.
Shah subsequently filed a complaint via email with the Mulund Police Station and also lodged a complaint with the First Class Magistrate, 27th Court, Mulund West.
The Mulund Police have registered a case based on Shah's complaint under sections 109, 115(2), 117(2), 351(3), 352, and 62 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act.
