Mumbai: In a clever use of social media, Dharavi Police arrested a 19-year-old man accused of attempted murder by luring him through a fake Instagram profile. The accused, Shubham Kori, had been absconding after allegedly attacking a young man with a knife during a minor dispute in Dharavi.

According to police, Kori fled the scene immediately after the incident and deliberately cut off all contact with his family and friends to evade arrest, making the search for him increasingly difficult. However, during the investigation, police discovered that the accused was active on social media, particularly on Instagram.

Acting on this lead, officers from the Dharavi police created a fake Instagram account posing as a young woman and sent Kori a friend request. Once he accepted, the two began chatting, and police were able to extract key information about his whereabouts.
Traced to CIDCO Colony in Nashik with help of local police; suffered seizures during arrest and transit
The investigation team, led by Sub-Inspector Vikas Shelar under the guidance of Senior Inspector Raja Bidkar and Inspector Ashok Ugle, traced Kori to the CIDCO Colony area of Nashik. With assistance from the local Ambad Police, they located and arrested him.

During his arrest, Kori reportedly experienced a seizure—a condition he has had since childhood. He was immediately admitted to a local hospital in Nashik for treatment. On the journey back to Mumbai, he had two more seizures and was finally taken to Sion Hospital for further medical care.
Once his condition stabilized, the Dharavi Police formally placed him under arrest. A case of attempted murder had already been registered against him in connection with the knife attack.
